Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes

Overview

As part of our commitment to using our role to improve the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, the ADC has released a follow-up report to The role of accreditation in improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, which was published in 2019 by the Health Professions Accreditation Collaborative Forum (HPACF).

The new report outlines findings from surveys undertaken in 2021 and 2022 of education providers delivering accredited health practitioner programs in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS).

Overall, the results are promising, with responses from monitoring questions demonstrating a clear commitment from education providers to continue to review and develop programs to better address cultural safety.

Next steps

The ADC will continue to monitor these trends over time, to assess the impact of accreditation in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.

Note: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples should be aware that this publication may contain the images of people who have since passed away.
