Cultural safety in healthcare – Celebrating the Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

The ADC signified its commitment to reconciliation with the establishment of the inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2022. Over the past 18 months, more than 47 individual commitments have been achieved as part of the RAP, and we acknowledged completion of the Reflect RAP in January 2024. This significant milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and advancing Indigenous engagement within the ADC. We are proud of the progress we’ve made and the opportunities ahead to further embed reconciliation into our practices, policies, and culture.

To celebrate this achievement and highlight our progress, all ADC staff recently participated in a Reflections on Reflect workshop, during which we collectively discussed our experiences and learnings, further reinforcing our commitment to positive change and fostering greater inclusion and diversity within the ADC. Some key reflections included:

  • recognition of unconscious bias and privilege
  • improved self-awareness in communicating with people from different cultures
  • understanding the meaning of Country and connection to First Nations peoples
  • challenges in assessing cultural safety in health care.

In the coming months, we will commence an exciting new journey to plan our Innovate RAP. The Innovate RAP focuses on developing innovative strategies to establish the best approach to advance reconciliation in the workplace and will be delivered over two years. We are immensely grateful for our staff’s ongoing support and engagement as we navigate this transformative journey together.
