Overview

The ADC is an independent, ‘for purpose’ company appointed by the Dental Board of Australia to accredit Australian dental programs, and assess the knowledge, clinical skills and professional attributes of international trained dental practitioners seeking registration to practice in Australia.

As part of our commitment to kept abreast of current and emerging trends in assessment and dental education, and to properly consider opportunities for changes and improvements to the dental practitioner assessment process, we are setting up an ADC Assessment Innovation Reference (AIR) Group. The group will provide insight into the latest assessment developments, review feedback, provide suggestions for improvement and recommendations to the ADC.

The aim of the group is to:

  1. report to the ADC on latest trends and developments in assessments and in dental education;
  2. provide feedback to the ADC regarding the written and practical examinations and identify opportunities for improvement, including processes to ensure fairness, transparency and conformity with best practice;
  3. provide advice to the ADC regarding possible changes to the dental practitioner assessment process based on the best available evidence and practice;
  4. monitor changes to legislation and scope of practice; and
  5. consider how to provide enhanced candidate experience and outcomes.

The AIR Reference Group will meet quarterly or as required. Travel and if required, accommodation costs for any face-to-face workshops will be funded by the ADC and sitting fees will apply. Appointments are initially for a 12-month term, with further terms of two years.
