On 1 May 2020, the Australian Dental Council (ADC) approved updates to the ADC’s protocol to monitor the impacts on accredited programs of the COVID-19 pandemic (the Protocol).

Key updates to the Protocol include:

  • a change from fortnightly to monthly monitoring reports for dental practitioner programs;
  • a revision to the re-accreditation process for 2020, with paper-based reviews to be undertaken and site visits to occur at a later date when it is safe to do so; and
  • removal of the requirement to submit annual reports in 2020

The ADC is now accepting applications from providers seeking accreditation of new programs. The ADC will work with providers regarding timeframes for the accreditation of new programs, with reviews to be completed in accordance with the re-accreditation process outlined in the updated Protocol.

The updated Protocol will impact programs in specific ways.  The ADC will write to each provider to outline the changes and how this will impact them.

The ADC is continuing to work closely with providers to monitor the current situation regarding COVID-19. We are committed to working with all providers in line with the COVID-19 dental practitioner program accreditation principles (the Principles) released on 24 April.
