Overview

We have released new application periods and examination dates for all 2023 written and practical examinations.

Please see below for specific conditions applying to all examinations.

General dentistry

Written examination

2023 Period 1 Application period: 1– 14 December 2022
Examination date: Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 March 2023
2023 Period 2 Application period: 8 – 21 June 2023
Examination date: Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 September 2023

Practical examination

2023 Period 1 Application period: 11– 24 October 2022
Examination period: Feb – May 2023*
2023 Period 2 Application period: 7 – 20 February 2023
Examination period: June – August 2023*
2023 Period 3 Application period: 2 – 15 May 2023
Examination period: September – December 2023*

*Specific dates will be set after the application period

Dental hygiene / dental therapy /combined dental hygiene and dental therapy

Written examination

2023 Period 1 Application period: 1–14 December 2022
Examination date: Thursday 16 March 2023
2023 Period 2 Application period: 8 – 21 June 2023
Examination date: Friday 22 September 2023

Practical examination

2023 Period 1 Application period: 15 – 28 March 2023
Examination dates: Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 June 2023
2023 Period 2 Application period: 9 – 21 August 2023
Examination dates: Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 November 2023

Application process

Applications for all examinations must be made via ADC Connect.

Eligibility

These application periods are open to candidates who:

Written

    • Have a valid initial assessment up to and including the examination date
    • Meet all other eligibility requirements as specified for each application period

Practical

    • Have a valid initial assessment up to the end of the examination date
    • Have a have a valid written examination up to the end of the examination date
    • Have not sat, or are due to sit, a practical examination in the previous examination period
    • Are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (minimum two doses)
    • Meet all other eligibility requirements as specified for each application period

Any eligibility requirements applicable to a specific application period will be published prior to the application period opening.

If your initial assessment is due to expire, we recommend you allow sufficient time to renew it before the opening of the relevant examination application period. Please note that renewal applications may take up to 8 weeks to process.

If you are an eligible candidate, you will receive an email when the application period opens. If you believe you are eligible but have not received an email, please contact us via our contact page and ensure you select practical examination from the dropdown list as your area of enquiry.

Identification

If your passport or photograph expire, you will need to update new, valid documents to your profile before you can apply for an ADC examination.

Verification will happen in the weeks leading up to an examination period, and you can check the status on the identification page on ADC Connect.

To ensure documents are verified as quickly as possible, we respectfully ask you not to contact us to check when documents will be verified.

Application period closing times

The closing time for written and practical applications is always 5pm Melbourne time (either AEDT or AEST depending on time of year).
